What are papillomas?

Papillomas are neoplasms that appear on the skin and mucous membranes when infected with HPV. The virus is transmitted mainly by contact, and can exist in the body in a latent form for a long time, without showing any signs. Papillomas come in different shapes and sizes - from small flat flesh-colored spots to peas.

The appearance of papillomas is often associated with a weakened immune system. If the immune system functions normally, the body successfully suppresses the activity of the virus, preventing visible manifestations of infection. When the protective properties are reduced, viruses begin to actively multiply, causing the growth of neoplasms.

What are papillomas?

Indications for papilloma removal

Removal of papillomas is recommended for the following indications:

  • Aesthetic discomfort: papillomas on the face and exposed areas of the body often become the cause of emotional discomfort and self-doubt
  • High risk of injury: the papilloma is located in places where it is regularly subjected to friction and pressure, which causes skin irritation, inflammation, bleeding, and increases the risk of infection
  • Risk of cancer development: some types of HPV cause cells to become malignant

The doctor makes the decision to remove neoplasms individually based on the clinical picture.

Contraindications to papilloma removal

There are a number of contraindications in which it is not recommended to remove papillomas:

  • Oncology: there are risks of deterioration of the patient's general condition
  • Tendency to bleeding and other hemostasis disorders
  • Skin damage in the area of the proposed intervention
  • Flu, acute respiratory viral infections, exacerbation of chronic diseases, acute infectious processes in the body
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.

To determine whether a medical procedure is appropriate, you should consult with a qualified doctor.

General information about the procedure

Preparing for the papilloma removal procedure

Before removing papillomas, you need to visit a dermatologist who will evaluate the skin, determine the nature of the formation and give recommendations regarding further treatment.

To exclude complications before surgery, the doctor prescribes a number of tests:

  • Coagulogram: a blood test for clotting that helps determine the risk of bleeding during and after surgery
  • General clinical blood test: allows you to assess your general health, identify inflammatory processes and infections
  • Determining the type of HPV to develop effective treatment tactics
  • Biopsy of the neoplasm: prescribed if a malignant process is suspected

For chronic diseases of internal organs, the patient requires consultation with specialized specialists - a therapist, endocrinologist, cardiologist, etc.

Methods of removing papillomas

Methods of removing papillomas that are widely used in medicine:

  • Laser removal: the procedure involves local exposure of the laser beam to the affected area of the epidermis. The laser gently evaporates the papilloma tissue, simultaneously sealing small vessels, which eliminates the risk of bleeding and infection. The procedure is quick, the patient can immediately return to their normal rhythm of life
  • Methods of removing papillomas that are widely used in medicine:: the method is based on the destruction of neoplasm cells with liquid nitrogen. Under the influence of extremely low temperatures, papilloma cells are destroyed, tissue death occurs with the formation of a dense crust, which naturally separates from the skin after two weeks
  • Electrocoagulation: removal of the neoplasm using electric current of a certain frequency and strength. The current causes coagulation of proteins in the cells of the neoplasm, leading to the gradual death of the papilloma. The method is effective, but with unqualified intervention there is a risk of damage to adjacent healthy tissues. Therefore, the procedure should only be performed in a clinic by a qualified doctor
  • Radio wave removal: an innovative approach to treating papillomas based on the use of high-frequency radio waves. Waves generated by special equipment penetrate deep into the papilloma, heat the tissue to the desired temperature and lead to its gradual death.
  • Surgical intervention: removal of the neoplasm with a scalpel. It is carried out mainly in cases where there is a suspicion of a malignant process and a tissue biopsy needs to be done

The procedure for removing papillomas

Papilloma removal is done in stages

  • Treatment of the surgical area with antiseptic solutions
  • Local anesthesia: performed at the discretion of the doctor. When using most modern minimally invasive methods, you can do without anesthesia. For patients with a high pain threshold or in the case of removal of large neoplasms, the doctor applies anesthetic gel to the treatment area. Injection anesthesia is used mainly for surgical excision
  • Removal of the neoplasm using the selected method
  • Recommendations for caring for the intervention area: by following certain rules, you can not only speed up recovery, but also avoid side effects

The patient must be under the supervision of medical workers for half an hour. Then he can leave the clinic for rehabilitation at home.

To assess the quality of tissue healing, the patient should regularly visit the doctor for follow-up examinations.

After the procedure: rehabilitation and skin care

Basic recommendations that should be followed for a quick recovery:

  • Regularly treat the damaged area with special disinfectants
  • Use special ointments and creams to heal the wound and prevent infection: according to the instructions
  • Limit your time in the sun, avoid visiting solariums until you are fully recovered. Under the influence of ultraviolet radiation and high temperatures, the skin becomes especially vulnerable to irritation
  • Do not use cosmetics: soap, gels, lotions, creams, etc.
  • When performing hygiene procedures, try to cover the damaged area with a bandage to minimize contact with water, which can slow down tissue regeneration

A dry crust forms at the site of papilloma removal - a natural protective barrier of the body that helps the skin recover. The crust protects the wound from bacteria, prevents dirt or infection from getting inside the wound. Self-removal of the crust can lead to scars, prolonged healing and tissue infection.

If bleeding, tissue swelling, or severe pain occurs in the damaged area, you should immediately consult a doctor.

I recently encountered a problem: a huge boil appeared on my buttock. I was terrified, thinking it would be incredibly painful and leave a permanent mark. I went to the K+31 clinic, where the doctor explained there was nothing to worry about, examined me, and scheduled surgery. I was a little nervous, of course, but the procedure itself went unnoticed, and a couple of weeks later, a barely noticeable spot remained.

I came here with a large boil on my back. I endured it until it became completely unbearable. Friends recommended the K+31 clinic. It turned out my fears were for nothing; they did everything quickly and professionally, and it wasn't painful at all. Within two days, I felt much better.

I waited for the boil to heal on its own, but it only grew. I realized I couldn't wait any longer. The local clinic prescribed an ointment, but it didn't help at all. I had to find a specialized clinic. That's how I ended up at K+31. They quickly consulted me and scheduled a convenient time for the surgery. Everything was done quickly and efficiently. I no longer have any pain or discomfort.

I'd like to express my gratitude to the staff at the K+31 clinic for their support. I was more terrified of removing the stent than having it installed, but it turned out to be much easier and quicker. There was no discomfort during the procedure, and I was able to go home immediately.

I was lucky enough to see Dmitry Alexandrovich by chance, but urgently: I went to see a general practitioner with unusual pain, and he diagnosed appendicitis. He's a wonderful doctor, very sensitive, precise, and doesn't waste words, just to the point. The surgery went perfectly, and Dmitry Alexandrovich monitored my recovery. I'm following his recommendations precisely. I'm very grateful I found him. He's a true professional.
