Pediatric dermatologist

The skin is an organ whose condition reflects the overall health of the body. The appearance of rashes, itching, plaque, and ulcers in children and adolescents is a reason to visit a specialist. A pediatric dermatologist sees patients aged 0 to 18 years. Their practice includes diseases of not only the skin but also its appendages, such as nails and hair.

Diseases that most often require consultation with a pediatric dermatologist

Contact our center for a detailed examination of the process and stage if you have the following skin diseases:

  • Atopic dermatitis
  • Eczema
  • Molluscum contagiosum
  • Lingena: pink, pityriasis versicolor, ringworm, microsporia
  • Fungal skin and nail infections
  • Acne
  • Demodicosis
  • Vitiligo
  • Psoriasis
  • Pediculosis
  • Seborrhea
  • Herpes, including shingles
  • Pyoderma

Any non-traumatic changes in the skin are pathologies. Timely diagnosis and periodic monitoring of growths and moles using this method will help avoid serious consequences.

Symptoms of skin diseases in children

An adolescent dermatologist consults a boy with a rash on his face.

Skin symptoms in children and adolescents can manifest in a wide variety of forms, and the skin's appearance is often the first sign of trouble. The most common signs include itching, redness, dryness and flaking, the appearance of spots or nodules, cracks, fluid-filled blisters, and changes in the skin's density and texture. In children, such reactions can occur suddenly, accompanied by restlessness and crying, while in adolescents, inflammatory lesions, acne, or seborrhea associated with hormonal changes are more common.

Rashes on the face, body, or scalp can be single or multiple, painful or painless, and accompanied by a burning sensation or tightness. In some cases, symptoms arise after contact with an irritant, while in other cases, they are a manifestation of an internal disease or the body's immune response.

Self-prescribing ointments and folk remedies can alter the clinical picture of the condition and complicate diagnosis. If any skin changes appear, it is important to schedule a consultation with a pediatric dermatologist promptly. A dermatologist will assess the symptoms, determine the cause, and select a safe treatment based on the child's age and skin characteristics. This approach is especially important for adolescents, for whom skin problems often affect not only their health but also their emotional state.

When to see a pediatric dermatologist

Signs and symptoms in children and adolescents that require a dermatologist's examination:

  1. Rashes on the skin or mucous membranes. The spots vary in shape, size, and color. They may be raised above the skin, contain contents, or be firm to the touch. They can be single or multiple. In some cases, they are painful to the touch.
  2. Changes in the color or shape of the nails. Darkening, yellowing, and splitting of the nail plate usually occur with a fungal infection.
  3. Acne. Most often seen in adolescents during puberty and associated with an imbalance of male and female hormones.
  4. Diaper rash. Seen in babies, but also seen in teenagers.
  5. Cracked skin, peeling. Characteristic of eczema, lichen, and rubromycosis.
  6. Blisters with or without contents. Occur with various pathologies, such as herpes, allergies, and chickenpox.
  7. Broken hair and eyelashes of varying lengths, as well as hair loss. It is important to rule out microsporia.
  8. White lumps on the eyelids, itching. This is how demodicosis – a mite infestation – manifests itself.
  9. Dandruff, oily scalp.

Any abnormality requires a specialist consultation, as the earlier the condition is detected, the higher the chances of recovery. Regular visits to the doctor are important when diagnosed with chronic skin diseases or after the removal of benign growths.

Our clinic has all the necessary facilities for examination and diagnosis. A timely appointment with a pediatric dermatologist will help prevent the condition from worsening and speed up the recovery process.

General information

Examination and examination by a pediatric dermatologist

After interviewing the young patient and their companions, a doctor from our clinic's dermatology center conducts a thorough examination. They examine the skin, hair, and mucous membranes. If there are any rashes, blisters, diaper rash, or other lesions, they are carefully examined, tested, and analyzed.

Diagnostic procedures that a doctor may prescribe

  • Complete blood test. Determines the immune system's response and helps identify the type of pathogen.
  • Blood chemistry for sugar, rheumatoid factor, and immunoglobulin E. Reflects the body's functioning during the disease, including allergic reactions.
  • PCR or ELISA tests to detect antibodies to viruses, bacteria, or their particles in the body. Shows the duration of the disease and the presence of immunity. For this, a venous blood test is performed.
  • Microscopic examinations—scrapings and smears from affected areas of skin or mucous membranes. The resulting material is examined under a microscope to identify the pathogen. A puncture—a collection of fluid (pus, vesicle contents) by puncturing the skin—may also be prescribed for this purpose.
  • Sputum culture and drug sensitivity testing. The identified microorganisms are cultured on nutrient media, then circles soaked in medicinal solutions are applied to them. Continued growth of microorganisms under these circles indicates resistance to the drug.
  • Scratching, or light scraping of the spots. This is useful for psoriasis, eczema, and mastocytosis.
  • Wood's lamp examination. Contains a long-wave ultraviolet emitter. It is used to diagnose vitiligo and various types of lichen.
  • Dermatoscopy. A device called a dermatoscope is used for close-up examination of the skin. This procedure is necessary to determine the type of lesion—whether it is benign or malignant.
  • Examinations necessary for diagnosis and treatment can be performed at our clinic. Before the examination, do not use ointments, creams, or topical solutions (such as iodine), as this will obscure the clinical picture.

Removal of some benign skin lesions is not considered surgical and can be performed by a dermatologist during a consultation under local anesthesia. One such method is cryodestruction.

Treatment of skin diseases in children

The approach to treatment at the K+31 Clinic is based on accurate diagnosis and an individualized treatment plan for each child. A dermatologist selects a treatment plan based on the patient's age, type of disease, allergies, and immune response. The basis of therapy is topical agents—ointments, creams, and lotions with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, or antifungal properties. These medications help reduce the severity of symptoms, restore the skin barrier, and prevent the spread of the disease.

For complex or chronic skin diseases, drug therapy is used to control inflammatory reactions and eliminate the underlying cause. Modern methods can also be used, such as phototherapy, which gently influences the skin's immune mechanisms, as well as physiotherapy procedures that accelerate healing.

The doctors at the K+31 Clinic follow international protocols, and a personalized skin treatment plan is developed based on all examination data. If necessary, related specialists—an allergist, immunologist, or endocrinologist—are involved, which is especially important for systemic dermatoses or long-term conditions. A pediatric dermatologist, who works with the clinic, monitors the child's condition over time, adjusting therapy as the condition improves. This increases the effectiveness of treatment for skin conditions in children and reduces the risk of recurrence.

How does a pediatric dermatologist appointment work?

The visit begins with registration and clarification of the child's information, after which the young patient is invited into the doctor's office. The consultation is conducted with the parents' participation: the dermatologist asks about the onset of symptoms, possible exposure to irritants, past illnesses, and skin care habits. Collecting an anamnesis helps the doctor determine the probable cause of the disorder and determine the appropriate areas for further diagnostics.

A thorough examination of the skin, scalp, and mucous membranes is then performed. If necessary, dermatoscopy is used to examine lesions under magnification. The doctor may prescribe laboratory tests, scrapings, microscopic examination, or additional diagnostic procedures. After evaluating the data, the dermatologist makes a preliminary or final diagnosis, explains the characteristics of the condition to the parents, and proposes a personalized treatment plan.

The patient and their parents receive detailed recommendations on care, the selection of cosmetics, flare-up prevention, and the need for a follow-up visit. The appointment takes place in a calm, friendly atmosphere, helping your child feel confident and comfortable.

Appointments can be scheduled online through the clinic's website or by phone, making it easy to choose a convenient time and receive a quick consultation.

Our clinic's pediatric dermatologist conducts examinations and prescribes treatment plans based on clinical guidelines approved by the Ministry of Health. By choosing our clinic, you will ensure your child's treatment is based on evidence-based medicine.

About doctor:

Leshko Olga Igorevna

The first time we went to see the nephrologist Ekaterina Petrovna Meteleva was in 2020. We were advised to contact her. My daughter's diagnosis is "chronic pyelonephritis, urinary tract infections, neurogenic bladder." Ekaterina Petrovna carefully collected the medical history, carefully and carefully conducted the examination, and explained in great detail and clearly what needed to be done to improve the child's condition. We also received recommendations regarding the gastrointestinal tract. Like it Since that time, the daughter has been observed by Ekaterina Petrovna. She goes to appointments with pleasure, Ekaterina Petrovna is very friendly and delicately communicates with patients. Her competent treatment always brings positive results. We are very grateful to Ekaterina Petrovna!

Madina Quanovna - Professional with a big letter and a great man. I was at a reception with a teenage girl on the issue of automonic disease. She took a very careful and sensitive examination, drew attention to some nuances and, above all, found the cause of their occurrence and provided effective treatment. We've already lost hope of how to deal with them by visiting several other doctors in other clinics. The daughter loves her, too. We'll keep watching her.
