The Smile Design modeling process begins with an examination of the patient's oral cavity and a discussion of the desired result. The dentist evaluates the condition of the teeth - special attention is paid to identifying any defects that require correction.

- 3D scanning and photo protocol. To obtain a three-dimensional image of the chewing elements, the specialist uses an interoral digital scanner. The procedure covers both the upper and lower jaw. - Laboratory modeling. At this stage, data from the scanner and photographs are processed using special programs. Next, a virtual smile model is developed
- Demonstration and fitting. At this stage, the patient is given the opportunity to try on the developed design
After all adjustments have been agreed upon, preparation of the chewing elements for installation of ceramic restorations begins.
The main advantage of the CDU is the ability to accurately determine and correct the location of each element of the dentition. Additional advantages:
- Bite correction. Using this technology helps reduce wear on tooth enamel. Also, its use helps eliminate headaches and problems with the jaw joints
- Planning of implantation and prosthetics. The technology allows you to optimize these processes and minimize errors in the manufacture of prostheses
The main disadvantage of the CDU is its technical complexity. To perform such procedures, modern, often expensive equipment is required. Another problem is the lack of qualified specialists.
The application of the “golden ratio” principle in dentistry allows specialists to create a natural and aesthetic smile. The following aspects are taken into account:
- The relationship between the type of face and the shape of the teeth. Different face shapes require an individual approach to choosing the shape and size of teeth
- Parallelism of lines. Horizontal lines running under the eyes and along the lips should be strictly parallel
- Gum level. The upper lip should completely cover the gums without exposing them
- Color combination. The shade of the teeth should be combined with the color of the skin - excessive whiteness looks unnatural
- Parallelism. When smiling, the line of the lower lip should follow the contour of the upper teeth
The center of the smile should coincide with the vertical axis, which divides the face into two equal parts.
Digital modeling is not always used to create veneers. Composite veneers, for example, are created directly in the dentist's chair. In this case, the dentist uses a temporary composite - this allows the patient to evaluate the future appearance of his smile before the material completely hardens.
Removable veneers are inexpensive, mass-produced silicone products that do not require an individual approach and are often sold by companies outside of dentistry. Therefore, DSD technology is also not used in their production.
