FAQ - breast surgery

Is breast cancer always synonymous with breast removal?

In most cases, if breast cancer is detected early, it is not necessary to remove the breast. It is enough to remove only the tumor and perform a selective biopsy of the sentinel nodes, in which there may be metastases, and conduct therapy.

A mastectomy changes a woman's body and can change her attitude towards herself. Removal of the mammary gland or mammary glands is a very difficult story for many patients.

If it is possible to save the breast, the doctor will definitely suggest this option.

But if the formation is large or there are several tumors, there is no way to remove them and not leave tumor cells, then organ-preserving surgery will not work.

Can breast removal be combined with mammoplasty?

The doctor may suggest that the woman undergo a simultaneous mastectomy and mammoplasty. This is a good option that does not contradict the principles of cancer treatment, and the woman experiences less stress. After such an operation, the breast looks very aesthetically pleasing.

When to have mammoplasty after mastectomy?

If you carry out mastectomy and mammoplasty at the same time, you can get the best result: save almost all of the skin and even the nipple with the areola. If the operation is postponed, then a scar will form at the site of the breast. Therefore, the final result of delayed reconstruction will be significantly inferior to one-stage plasty.

Another feature of simultaneous reconstructive surgery is that only one anesthesia and a single rehabilitation period are required.

To carry out such an intervention, the surgeon must be a specialist in two areas: oncology and plastic surgery.

In K+31, such operations are performed by Malygin Sergey Evgenyevich, oncologist-mammologist, plastic surgeon.

We thank Sergey Evgenyevich for such detailed answers!
