Blepharoplasty

Eyelid plastic surgery at K+31 Clinic

What is blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is the correction of the eyelids, carried out by performing a surgical operation. The procedure involves removing excess skin around the eyes. The same operation is performed if necessary to remove or redistribute areas of adipose tissue, the so-called hernias. Eyelid surgery is a safe procedure that allows you to prolong youth, eliminate the signs of old age around the eyes.

Symptoms (causes)

Blepharoplasty is recommended when:

  • The upper eyelid hangs;
  • There are sac-like formations or excess adipose tissue;
  • The skin in the outer corners of the eyes hangs;
  • There are pronounced skin folds in the corners or in the lower part of the eye;
  • There is a desire to modify the cut or the shape of the eyes.

Opportunities

Eyelid surgery makes it possible to:

  • Get rid of excess skin around the eyes;
  • Eliminate bag-like formations under the eyes;
  • Perform an eyelid lift;
  • Raise the outer corners of the eyes;
  • Modify the cut and also the shape of the eyes.

Types of eyelid surgery

There are several types of eyelid surgery, each of which is suitable for a particular case, depending on the structure of the face and other individual characteristics of the patient.

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty

Over time, age-related changes are observed. They are expressed in the form of sagging of the skin of the upper eyelids, which negatively affects the area of the eyebrow line. This often leads to a narrowing of the field of view, an increase in eye strain. In order to eliminate such manifestations, plastic surgery of the upper eyelids is performed, which allows you to remove excess skin, raise the eyebrow line to the desired level. It is more effective to carry out such an operation and, in addition, the forehead skin tightening procedure.

Blepharoplasty of the lower eyelids

Correction of the lower eyelids is carried out in order to eliminate bag-like formations under the eyes, as well as pronounced folds or excess skin. The choice of this type of blepharoplasty depends on individual characteristics. If you need to get rid of swollen “bags” under the eyes that can lead to the appearance of deep wrinkles, and even young people have such a problem, then in this case a decision is made to perform transconjunctival plastic surgery. This procedure is a micro incision in the inner region of the lower eyelid. This procedure does not require stitches. Complete healing of the incision occurs within a day after the operation. As for the removal of excess skin, lower eyelid surgery is performed in the same way as blepharoplasty of the upper eyelids.

Circular blepharoplasty

This is a more complex and long lift of both the upper and lower eyelids. It is done in several stages and must be performed by a professional doctor, as it is more difficult than other types of plastic surgery. It allows you to eliminate the maximum number of problems that bother the patient at a time.

Transconjunctival blepharoplasty

In this type of plastic surgery, the doctor uses a special method, making micro-cuts on the inside of the eyelid. This allows you to hide the traces of surgery, i.e. does not interfere with the aesthetic appearance. Another advantage of such eyelid surgery is the minimal chance of complications.

Contraindications

There are no contraindications, except for:

  • The presence of dry eyes when outflow and tear production are impaired
  • Acute or chronic diseases that are inflammatory (conjunctivitis, chalazion)

Preparation and operation

Preparatory procedures include:

  • Diagnosis, which will reveal individual characteristics, possible contraindications;
  • Preoperative preparation by doctors and medical staff.

Patients receive detailed information about preoperative and postoperative procedures from the staff of the Plastic Surgery Department of our clinic. They will answer all your questions, give recommendations and tell you what is possible and what is not possible before and after plastic surgery.

Blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia. In some cases, complete anesthesia with intravenous anesthesia is also possible. The procedure lasts from 50 minutes to 1.5 hours. In blepharoplasty, the surgeons of our clinic use a precision technique that makes it possible to optically enlarge the operated area. This allows you to perform the procedure with high accuracy, to apply the thinnest sutures, which become almost invisible after 1.5 months.

Restore

The recovery process varies by individual. For a faster flow of such a process, it will be necessary to follow some postoperative recommendations.

Possible complications:

  • Non-dangerous subcutaneous hemorrhages that disappear after about a week. The risk of such consequences is higher in patients who smoke;
  • The occurrence of hypertrophic scars in the area of postoperative sutures. Such a complication is often caused by the individual tendency of the skin of a particular patient.

The term of full recovery is 1.5 months. This time, as a rule, is enough for a scar to form, and the swelling that occurs after the procedure to disappear. Practice shows that repeated blepharoplasty may be required only after about 7 years. If desired, you can carry out the procedure several times. But a second operation is performed only if there are medical indications. How soon you need eyelid correction again depends on your health, lifestyle, and bad habits.

Security

Blepharoplasty is a common operation performed by plastic surgeons around the world. At Clinic K+31, it is performed by experienced doctors of the Department of Plastic Surgery, who are highly qualified to ensure 100% safety of the operation. They can perform any cosmetic surgery on the eyelids and correct all the shortcomings that interfere with the patient.

The technique used, specially designed for eyelid surgery, allows for high precision and accuracy in suturing. In this case, very thin suture material is used. Traces of the operation completely disappear after 1.5 months!

Recommendations

The first signs of aging in men and women appear already by the age of 30-35 - wrinkles, overhanging of the upper eyelid, bag-like formations under the eyes. To eliminate such age-related manifestations, it is recommended to perform blepharoplasty of the lower and / or upper eyelids. A similar procedure can be performed and at a younger age. Plastic surgery specialists today use modern technology, which allows not to harm the circular muscle of the eye, makes it possible to ensure the speedy healing after surgery, as well as to avoid the formation of rough scars.

Questions and answers

Question: At what age can eyelid surgery be done?

Answer: There is an opinion that blepharoplasty should be done after the onset of age-related changes. However, it is used by patients of any age, for example those who are dissatisfied with the shape of the century purely from an aesthetic point of view.

Question: Does an eyelid lift really change the shape of the eyes?

Answer: Only if that was the original purpose of the operation.

Question: Is this operation suitable for men?

Answer: Yes, of course. Eyelid surgery is done by both men and women.

Question: Do scars remain after a lift?

Answer: This type of plasty involves the use of small incisions, the traces of which eventually become invisible and do not spoil the beauty of the patient.
