Being overweight in childhood may be associated with an increased risk of developing cancer in adulthood.

The link between obesity in adulthood and an increased risk of cancer has already been known, but the risk associated with overweight in childhood and puberty has not previously been described in detail.

According to a study conducted by scientists from the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), men who had a high body mass index (BMI) in childhood are at increased risk of developing cancer associated with obesity (cancer of the oral cavity, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, colon, thyroid, skin and blood). This dependence can be traced even if the weight has normalized further.
