How to choose a hearing aid and clinic

The device should be selected by an audiologist who:

  • Ask clarifying questions
  • Test your hearing using special audiological equipment
  • Determines the exact degree of hearing loss
  • Select a hearing aid based on size and power
  • Customizes it according to the patient's needs

A hearing aid selected and adjusted by an audiologist will help significantly improve speech intelligibility and mnestic functions, does not lead to the death of auditory cells and does not impair hearing. Premium hearing aids, due to multi-channel digital sound processing, amplify only low frequencies and do not cause irritation.

The advantages of expert-class devices are that they enhance the ranges of those sounds that are less audible. This has a positive effect on the auditory cells and saves future costs.

One solution to the problem of obesity is bariatric surgery, which involves a complex of operations on the stomach.

At the multidisciplinary clinic "K+31", doctors with 20 years of experience perform these operations using different methods. Surgeons periodically undergo advanced training courses, so they have the knowledge and skills to perform surgical interventions of varying complexity.

The clinic has its own laboratory and equipment from the world's leading manufacturers of medical equipment. This makes it possible to diagnose and perform gastric surgery for weight loss, ensuring safety and achieving the desired result for the patient.

Answers to popular questions

What does an audiologist do?

Audiologist is a rather rare medical specialty. A specialist in this profile is engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies of the inner ear, as well as the rehabilitation of people with hearing impairments. An audiologist conducts an examination, develops an individual treatment regimen, and selects and adjusts a hearing aid.

During the appointment, the audiologist examines the patient’s ears using special instruments and makes a primary diagnosis. If necessary, the doctor refers the patient for additional studies. It is important to correctly identify the causes that led to hearing loss. They can be different:

  • Congenital disease.
  • Complicated otitis media or other disease.
  • Neurological disorder.
  • Traumatic brain injury.
  • Problems with blood vessels.
  • Acoustic trauma.
  • Excessive noise in the workplace.
  • Regularly listen to loud music on headphones.
  • Age changes.

Often, the audiologist involves other specialists: a surgeon, endocrinologist, pediatrician, therapist, etc. Based on the results of a comprehensive diagnosis, the doctor develops an optimal correction scheme and selects a hearing aid. The result of treatment depends on a number of factors: the cause of hearing loss, the stage of development of the disease, the individual characteristics of the patient, etc.

What diseases does an audiologist treat?

An audiologist has the knowledge to diagnose and treat pathologies that lead to hearing loss.

Hearing loss is a partial loss of the ability to perceive someone else's speech. Depending on the cause of occurrence, there are 3 types of hearing loss:

  • Conductive - not connected to the inner ear and easy to correct.
  • Neurosensory - developed against the background of damage to the auditory nerve, other diseases, age-related changes, and cannot be treated.
  • Mixed.

Deafness is the absolute absence or extreme degree of hearing loss. This pathology can be either congenital or acquired.

Acoustic neuroma is a benign neoplasm, also called acoustic schwannoma, which develops from Schwann cells of the auditory nerve.

Meniere's disease is a non-inflammatory disease, the main symptoms of which are: imbalance, frequent dizziness, constant tinnitus, progressive hearing loss.

An audiologist also works with other problems that cause hearing loss in patients. These may be consequences of otitis media and atherosclerosis, benign neoplasms and other causes. Treatment is carried out on an outpatient basis or in a hospital.

When to see an audiologist

You need the help of an audiologist if you:

  • You feel tense when talking to your interlocutor.
  • You do not perceive or recognize individual speech sounds poorly.
  • You can’t hear whispers.
  • You feel pain, noise or crackling in your ears.
  • You experience discomfort when talking on the phone.
  • Have to turn up the volume on the TV.

Make an appointment with an audiologist at the first signs of pathology. The sooner treatment is started, the more likely you are to avoid further hearing loss.

Diagnostic methods in audiology

To identify the factors that provoked hearing loss and prescribe adequate treatment, the audiologist conducts a comprehensive diagnosis. There are special research methods:

  • Audiometry - determining the patient’s sensitivity to sound waves of different frequencies.
  • Tympanometry - determination of the degree of mobility of the eardrum, which is responsible for conducting sound waves.
  • Otomicroscopy - examination of the external auditory canal and eardrum using an operating microscope.
  • Reflexometry - assessment of reflex contraction of the muscles of the middle ear.

The listed studies are prescribed for both adults and children. They are carried out quickly - within 10-15 minutes. During the procedure, the patient does not feel pain or any discomfort.

To undergo an examination at the audiology department, make an appointment for a consultation. This can be done online on the medical center website or by phone.

What types of hearing aids are there?

If you want to buy a hearing aid, consult an audiologist. Depending on the budget, model, parameters, volume settings, there are various options for prostheses:

  • Analog hearing aids. A device with a microphone and receiver amplifies all the sounds it picks up
  • Digital hearing aids. A modern digital device that can suppress ambient noise and improve speech intelligibility. As a result, the patient receives high quality sound

By the location of the hearing aid there are:

  • In-ear wireless hearing aids
  • In-canal hearing aids (invisible)
  • BTE miniature hearing aids
  • BTE classic hearing aids
