Gastrectomy - one of the most complex operations performed at K+31

For the first time in K+31, a total gastrectomy (complete removal) of the stomach and surrounding lymph nodes was performed using laparoscopic access. The surgeons connected the esophagus directly to the small intestine. This is one of the most complex operations in general surgery, which is performed in only a few federal centers of Russia, and is now available for the treatment of patients at the K+31 clinic.

Considering that gastric cancer is less responsive to chemotherapy, surgical treatment is the main step for successful and effective treatment.

Minimally invasive access allows the patient to recover faster - on the second day the patient began to walk and drink water.

A follow-up x-ray was taken six days later. A study with contrasting, which confirmed the positive outcome of the operation - the good condition of the formed anastomoses.

Now the patient is successfully adapting to the new condition, he eats on his own. The next step will be adjuvant chemotherapy to continue the complex treatment of gastric cancer.

Laparoscopic operations are no less complex than open access interventions, but much less traumatic, less risky and with a good cosmetic effect due to minimal trauma to the abdominal wall, which can significantly reduce the rehabilitation time.

Perhaps in the near future they will replace almost all open surgery.

We thank Oleg Ivanovich Udin, deputy chief physician for surgery at K+31, for the information.
