How to prepare for an MRI of the bladder

Magnetic resonance imaging of the bladder or MRI of the small pelvis is one of the most effective methods of examination that does not have a radiation effect on organs, which is important in the presence of malignant tumors in them. The technique is non-invasive and completely safe. Thanks to MRI of the bladder, it is possible to identify tumor-like pathologies from 1 mm, which makes it possible to prevent the development of diseases at an early stage.

When scheduling your exam, your doctor will tell you how to prepare for an MRI of your bladder. Standard training includes:

1. A light diet a couple of days before the procedure: it is necessary to exclude from the diet all gas-forming and peristalsis-enhancing products - fruits, raw vegetables, carbonated drinks, dairy products. Increased bowel tone can result in a blurry image of the bladder.

2. Cleansing the intestines with an enema in the evening before the examination is necessary only in case of constipation in the patient. It is advisable not to urinate 2 hours before the intended examination. Otherwise, the usual preparation involves taking the drugs Nosh-pa or Buscopan 40 minutes before the study.

The final recommendations that will help to conduct the research more efficiently should still be clarified with your doctor, based on your history.

As a rule, it is not necessary to come to the examination on an empty stomach, let's say a light breakfast or a small lunch, depending on the time of the appointed examination. You can drink a small to medium amount of water. Do not overuse fluid intake, as overcrowding in the bladder can negatively affect spatial resolution and, ultimately, the clarity of the resulting image.

If you have any additional questions, you can contact the MRI room directly, where they will answer you in detail.
