Treatment of ethmoiditis - K + 31

Ethmoiditis is a disease in which the inflammatory process is localized in the cells of the ethmoid bone.

As an independent disease, ethmoiditis is quite rare. Although, there is also an isolated ethmoiditis, in which only one ethmoid cell is affected. As a rule, inflammation of the ethmoid labyrinth cells goes along with inflammation in the other paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity. Ethmoiditis, like all other sinusitis, is acute and chronic. Acute ethmoiditis occurs with ARVI, flu, colds. Also, the occurrence of the disease is facilitated by violations of the anatomy of the nasal cavity - curvature of the nasal septum, changes in the middle turbinate, etc.

Symptoms of ethmoiditis

Common symptoms of ethmoiditis are:

  • Difficulty in nasal breathing
  • Pressing or dull pain at the root of the nose
  • Discharge from the nose of a purulent or mucous nature (depending on the stage)

Diagnostics

When diagnosing ethmoiditis, the specialists of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology K + 31 prescribe:

  • Endoscopic examination of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses
  • CT scan of the paranasal sinuses

Treatment of ethmoiditis

With the conservative treatment of acute ethmoiditis, the following are prescribed:

  • Decongestants (vasoconstrictor drugs (5 - 7 days)
  • Mucolytic therapy (for liquefaction and easier removal of discharge from the sinus)
  • Antibacterial therapy
  • Anti-inflammatory and anti-edema sprays
  • After relief of acute ethmoiditis, correction of the anatomy of the nasal cavity is recommended.

In the case of chronic ethmoiditis, the patient is prescribed surgical treatment in order to eliminate the pathology of the paranasal sinuses and correct the anatomy of the nasal cavity.

In the postoperative period, antibacterial therapy, anti-inflammatory and anti-edema nasal sprays, medicines for the treatment of allergies are prescribed. Competent postoperative care is very important, as a result of which it is possible to avoid postoperative complications, such as, for example, synechia.

Today, surgical treatment of ethmoiditis is carried out using endoscopic technique according to the FESS technique, which significantly reduces the risk of complications and facilitates the postoperative period.
