How does the phototrichogram procedure work?
The phototrichogram is performed in two stages. The first includes:
- The trichologist determines the area of the scalp (about 1 cm2) for analysis
- Removing hair in the selected area with a razor
- Applying markings in the form of dots for subsequent detection of the area
After completing the first stage, the patient goes home for 2-3 days. During this time, actively growing hair grows long enough, and hair in the resting phase remains short.
The second stage involves the following actions:
- The patient returns to the clinic
- The doctor takes a series of photographs of the treated area using a trichoscope
- The images are loaded into a computer, where the program analyzes the number of hairs, their thickness and distribution by growth phases
The procedure lasts no more than 30 minutes and does not require anesthesia. It provides objective data on the condition of the hair, which is not available during a standard examination.
After deciphering the results, the doctor recommends undergoing a repeat diagnosis in 3 months to assess changes in the condition of the hair and the effectiveness of the treatment.
