Furuncle of the nose

Furuncle of the nose is an acute inflammation of the hair follicle or sebaceous gland.
Causes of occurrence: a decrease in the resistance of the skin and the whole body to staphylococcal and streptococcal infections. The appearance of a boil is facilitated by metabolic disorders, diabetes mellitus, hypovitaminosis, hypothermia.

Symptoms of the nasal boil

A boil is called a purulent formation on the hair surface of the skin.
What does a boil look like? It is easy to detect the formation, but only in those cases when an acute inflammatory process has formed at the junction of the lateral and inner walls (vestibule of the nose). The hair follicle can become inflamed directly on the inner or lateral walls, but the bottom of the cavity is often affected.

How does a nasal boil develop?

For the initial acute stage of the disease, a feeling of discomfort in the vestibule zone is characteristic. Pain appears, which can be of varying intensity - from not too severe to unbearable. Pain often worsens at night. If the boil is blackened in the middle, this indicates that the root of the boil is formed.
Typical symptoms:

  • hyperemia of the affected area;
  • swelling;
  • pain at the site of the lesion;
  • pain when pressing;
  • increased body temperature (systemic symptom).

In a laboratory study of blood, toxemia can be detected.
In the next stage (purulent boil), if the measures were taken at the wrong time or the treatment was not adequate, the symptoms become more complicated. Diagnosed:

  • thrombus formation in the area of the angular vein (outwardly resembles the appearance of a thickened cord);
  • an increase in the general body temperature to significant values;
  • swollen lymph nodes;
  • swelling of the eyelids, hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the eye, difficulty in moving the eyeballs, pain;
  • deterioration of vision;
  • bulging eyes.

If you do not receive qualified help, swelling of the optic nerves may occur, which leads to complete or partial paralysis of the eye muscle.

Forms

The disease has two stages: the first is the formation of an infiltrate (closed furuncle). In the second, pus appears, the pain intensifies and additional symptoms develop. Pus forms at the site of the infiltrate, if you do not consult a doctor in time. In the first stage, the boil does not hurt much. The second stage is characterized by a deterioration in general condition and increased pain. Often, in the second stage, it is necessary to resort to surgical treatment of the boil.
Complications after opening a boil usually develop if the autopsy was carried out in violation of the rules of asepsis or not by a specialist. The incision of the boil should not be wetted, as this contributes to the re-penetration of the infection and complicates the regeneration process.
Can I squeeze out a boil myself?
Attention! In no case should such attempts be made, as this can cause serious complications that threaten health and even life.

Causes

Why does a boil appear?
The most common cause of a boil is the penetration of a pathogenic infection (staphylococcus and streptococcus). In these cases, acute inflammation of the hair follicle occurs against the background of acute respiratory infections or acute respiratory viral infections (tonsillitis, pneumonia, flu, etc.).
A boil can form as a result of mechanical injury, through which pathogens easily enter the body.

How does staphylococcus bacteria enter the nose and develop a boil?

A person can be a carrier of infections and not be aware of it. Under suitable conditions (hypothermia, decrease in general protective properties, exacerbation of any chronic pathology of the body, stress, increased physical activity, alcohol abuse) streptococci or staphylococci begin to manifest themselves.
The formation of a boil is facilitated by:

  • non-observance of the rules of personal hygiene;
  • harmful production;
  • hypothermia or overheating of the body;
  • diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • unbalanced nutrition with an insufficient amount of vitamins, minerals, trace elements;
  • endocrine diseases;
  • reduced immunity.

Diagnostics

Diagnostics should be carried out only by a doctor in a clinic. The doctor conducts an external examination, collects anamnesis and prescribes the necessary laboratory diagnostic measures.
Laboratory tests include: a general blood test, with the determination of the number of neutrophils and ESR, analysis of urine and blood for the content of carbohydrates to exclude diabetes mellitus. In some cases, a study of the material is carried out to determine the pathogen (sowing of a smear and determination of sensitivity to antibiotics). If necessary, consultations are carried out with doctors of related specialties (gastroenterologist, endocrinologist, dermatologist).

In children

How to draw pus out of a boil? This question is often asked by parents. You should not look for recipes for traditional medicine and independently treat the disease. There is no need to purchase medications from the pharmacy network - on the advice of a pharmacist friend. A boil in children can be the result of hidden pathologies, therefore, you need to immediately consult a doctor.

In pregnant women

A boil in pregnant women threatens the health of both the woman and the fetus, therefore, at an early stage of the disease, it is necessary to seek help. You cannot take antibiotics and other drugs on your own or squeeze out the formation. The purulent core of the boil is located deep enough, with illiterate attempts to pull it out, sepsis may develop.

Treatment of a boil of a nose

Treatment of furunculosis in the modern medical center "Clinic K + 31" is carried out by qualified doctors with extensive experience. The therapy algorithm is selected individually after laboratory and diagnostic measures. The center is equipped with modern state-of-the-art equipment, applies its own developments and world experience in the treatment of any pathology.

Complications and consequences

If you do not take action in a timely manner, there is a risk of developing sepsis, phlebitis, inflammation of the eyelids, eye sockets, base of the skull, intracranial veins, and sinus.

How dangerous is a boil of a nose?

Furuncle of the nose, especially if it recurs often, is a dangerous condition that leads to serious complications. In severe cases, death is possible.

Prevention of a boil of the nose

Preventive measures are not complicated and include: timely treatment of any chronic pathologies of the body, hardening procedures, exclusion of mechanical injuries, balanced nutrition, adherence to personal hygiene rules and regular diagnostic measures.
