ALAT - alanine aminotransferase (GPT)

In biochemical analysis, you can very often find ALT. The norm of alanine aminotransferase (AT) is 41 U / L for men and 31 U / L for women. However, small deviations from the upper limit are not always taken into account in the absence of other signs of pathology in the body (symptoms, shifts in related indicators in biochemistry).

The GPT level is primarily judged on the work of the hepato-biliary system: liver, biliary tract and pancreas. Increases when:

  • All forms of hepatitis (especially with exacerbation of chronic processes);

  • Metabolic disorders (hepatosis);

  • Intoxication (poisoning, severe infections, parasites in the body);

  • Tumors and metastases in the liver;

  • Obstruction to the outflow of bile (obstructive jaundice);

  • Pancreatitis.

Less specific, but at the same time rather sensitive for general pathological conditions:

  • Burn disease;

  • Diseases of the blood;

  • Severe injuries;

  • The use of a number of drugs (hormone therapy, antibiotics, chemotherapy).

For all of the above diseases, alanine AT cannot be the only analysis by which a diagnosis is made. However, in combination with other results, it greatly facilitates the diagnostic search.

The content below the norm is rare and is typical for deficiency conditions (deficiency of vitamins, macro- and microelements), cirrhosis of the liver, poisoning with drugs with pronounced hepatotoxicity.

It is necessary to donate blood when:

  • The occurrence of heaviness or pain in the right hypochondrium;

  • Girdle pain in the upper abdomen;

  • Presence of nausea after eating and heartburn;

  • Bloating, unstable stools;

  • Impaired appetite;

  • Yellowing of the skin;

  • Long-term preservation of elevated body temperature;

  • Unmotivated weakness and severe fatigue.

In such situations, ALT is a mandatory laboratory indicator in conjunction with others: AST, bilirubin, amylase, etc.
